Change of Name Deeds

In the UK, you can change your legal name by using a Change of Name Deed (Deed Poll) or, in the case of marriage or civil partnership, your certificate from the ceremony. You do not have to follow a legal process to use a new name, but you will need official proof for documents like your passport or driving licence.

A Change of Name Deed (Deed Poll) is a legal document that confirms your change of name and is often necessary for updating official records. There are two main types - enrolled and unenrolled. The main difference is that with enrolled deed poll the change of name is put on public record in The London Gazette.

The Divorce Lawyer Clinic can assist with the preparation of the Change of Name Deed for a fixed fee of £80.
